The IN-STEP targets first time juvenile offenders. The program lasts 8-9 weeks and covers several topics, including drugs/alcohol, anger management and conflict resolution. Guardians attend with youth for mandated partner sessions, if determined necessary at intake. This curriculum is designed to improve the chance that participants will make better life choices that lead to prosocial behavior, healthier family dynamics, and an improved sense of self. It’s My Life is designed as a skills-building curriculum, to give both youth and guardians easy-to-use techniques to improve their lives together both at home and in the community. There are seven modules in the curriculum focused on the following ideas: relationship building, communication, emotional regulation, smart choices/decision making, cultural awareness and values, substance use, and family systems.
Referral sources:
Juvenile Services, local law enforcement agencies, municipal and district judges, District Attorney’s Office, parents/guardians, and family.
"It's My Life" at the Muskogee MCCOYS location varies by facilitator availability. All modules must be attended by guardian(s) and child(ren). There is a strict attendance and timeliness policy.
